| AFSS | Annual Fire Safety Statement — a statement issued each year covering essential measures for a building with a fire safety schedule. |
| Supplementary fire safety statement | A statement issued at intervals specified for critical measures in the fire safety schedule. |
| FSS | Fire Safety Schedule — lists the fire safety measures and their required performance/assessment requirements for a building. |
| BFPL | Bush Fire Prone Land — land mapped by council and certified by NSW RFS. |
| BAL | Bushfire Attack Level — a classification of potential bushfire exposure for building design decisions. |
| AEP | Annual Exceedance Probability — the chance of a flood of a given size occurring in any year (e.g., 1% AEP). |
| FPL | Flood Planning Level — often the 1% AEP level plus a ‘freeboard’ allowance, as defined by a council policy. |
